Alexander Statement on Tester-Corker Amendment

U.S. Senator Lamar Alexander (R-Tenn.) today released the following statement on his vote in support of an amendment offered by Senators Jon Tester (D-Mont.) and Bob Corker (R-Tenn.) that would delay by one year the implementation of Federal Reserve regulations over so-called "swipe fees," and would require a 6-month study of the regulations:

"I voted for this amendment because it would require our nation's financial regulators to study this rule's potential effects on community banks, credit unions, and consumers, and then rewrite a better rule if the study calls for one."

The amendment fell six votes short of the 60 votes necessary for adoption.
